Drake Baldwin-Braves-C
Drake Baldwin was 3-4 with an RBI against the Nationals. Baldwin has been on fire in the month of May. He was hitting .579 with 2 HR, 4 R, 6 RBI, and 0 SB in a part-time role. On the year, he is hitting .360 with 4 HR, 8 R, 12 RBI, and 0 SB. He has shown good plate skills (17% K and 8% BB) and the ability to hit the ball hard (14% Barrels and 66% Hardhit). Baldwin is not going to see regular playing time with Sean Murphy on the team, but his profile is on the rise.
CJ Abrams-Nationals-SS
CJ Abrams was 2-4 with an HR (6), 2 R, 1 RBI, and 1 SB against the Braves. Abrams had been hot in the month of May (.353 AVG with 1 HR, 9 R, 4 RBI, and 3 SB). He is hitting .317 with 6 HR, 20 R, 16 RBI, and 9 SB. Abrams is looking like the first half version we saw last year, who was one of the most valuable players. Everything under the hood looks legit (18% K, 11% Barrels, and 43% Hardhit). Abrams is tracking towards a 20 HR/30 SB season with a higher average than last year (.260-.270 range).
Jackson Holliday-Orioles-SS
Jackson Holliday was 1-4 with a single against the Twins. Holliday is hitting .250 with 4 HR, 13 R, 12 RBI, and 2 SB in 136 PA. He has been hitting leadoff against right-handed pitchers over the past week. Holliday has shown average plate skills (24% K and 8% BB) to go along with 7% Barrels and 42% Hardhit. He has done a good job not chasing out of the zone (24% O-swing). Holliday seems to be finally settling in at the major league level, which is nice to see for the top prospect.
Luis Robert Jr.-White Sox-OF
Luis Robert Jr. was 0-4 with 2 K's against the Reds. Robert Jr. is struggling to start the year in terms of average (.186 AVG), but he has provided fantasy value (5 HR/17 SB). It is quite incredible that he has 17 SB in 39 GP despite a .296 OBP. He should see a higher average going forward simply due to regression in his BABIP (.247). His strikeout rate is high (30% K), but it is in line with his career mark (27% K), and he isn't chasing out of the zone more than normal (32% O-swing). Robert Jr. is also hitting the ball hard (12% Barrels), so it is just a matter of time until things turn around, provided he stays healthy.
Matt McLain-Reds-SS
Matt McLain was 2-3 with an HR (6), 2 R, 1 RBI, and 1 BB against the White Sox. McLain had been struggling (.171 AVG with 5 HR, 20 R, 15 RBI, and 10 SB). This has meant that over the past three games, he has been moved to the 8th spot in the order from 2nd. The biggest issue has been a spike in his strikeout rate (31% K). Outside of his strikeout rate, there isn't much to point towards as to why he is struggling so much. He isn't chasing out of the zone (26% O-swing), and his swinging strike rate is in line with his career. He is hitting the ball hard (11% Barrels) but has been hurt by a .231 BABIP. McLain is still on pace for a 20 HR/20 SB season, so there isn't much to worry about, but it would be nice to see him turn it around soon.
